The Best Mob and Organized Crime Series Streaming Right Now

MobLand Season 2 just premiered on Paramount+ on September 18, and it is a good reason to look at the broader category it belongs to. These are crime dramas told from inside the enterprise. The protagonist is the one committing the crimes, building the organization, defending the territory. The tension comes from watching someone construct something that cannot hold — and knowing it cannot hold — while they operate as though it can. That is a different appeal from a procedural or an investigator-led thriller, where the structure is the chase. Here, the structure is the empire. Below are ten series across seven streaming services, every title verified for current US availability, organized by what kind of commitment you are signing up for.

If you are looking for the other side — shows where the protagonist is the investigator, not the criminal — see our companion post on investigator-led thrillers streaming now.

Just Premiered

MobLand

Streaming on Paramount+. Guy Ritchie's London crime drama returned for Season 2 on September 18, 2026, and has already been renewed for a third season. Tom Hardy plays a fixer caught between two warring crime families — the Harrigans, led by Pierce Brosnan and Helen Mirren, and the Stevensons. Season 1 established the power struggle through a botched murder and its fallout; Season 2 picks up the consequences. The show has an 88 percent critics score on Rotten Tomatoes and an 8.1 user rating on Watchmode. All of Season 1 is available on Paramount+ if you need to catch up before starting Season 2. You can also buy episodes on Amazon.

Complete Stories

These are limited series with a single arc. You watch, you get an ending, you move on. Readers who want a self-contained story rather than an open-ended saga should start here.

The Penguin

Streaming on Max. Colin Farrell plays Oz Cobb, a mid-level Gotham criminal who seizes an opening left by the power vacuum after the events of The Batman (2022). The show is about ambition and opportunism — Cobb is not a mastermind, he is a man who recognizes that the people above him are weaker than they think they are. Created by Lauren LeFranc, it is a self-contained eight-episode arc with a clear ending. 8.6 on IMDb, 84 on Watchmode. Also available on Max via Hulu. You can buy episodes on Amazon.

Dope Thief

Streaming on Apple TV+. Brian Tyree Henry stars as one of two Philadelphia friends who pose as DEA agents to rob a house — and uncover a narcotics corridor that puts a target on them. Created by Peter Craig, executive produced by Ridley Scott (who directed the first episode), it is a limited series that ran eight episodes and concluded in 2025. Based on Dennis Tafoya's 2009 novel of the same name. 80 on Watchmode. Apple TV+ only; no rent or buy option on other platforms.

Ongoing and Long-Running

These are the multi-season sagas — shows with enough runway to live in for weeks. Most have concluded, which means you can watch the full arc without waiting for new episodes.

Peaky Blinders

Streaming on Netflix. Six seasons, concluded in 2022. Cillian Murphy as Tommy Shelby, the head of a Birmingham crime family that grows from a post-WWI street gang into an international operation across the run. The period detail — 1919 through 1933 — is the show's signature, and the family-as-business structure is the template that several entries on this list echo. A film sequel is in development, but the series itself ends cleanly. 85 on Watchmode. You can also buy episodes on Amazon.

Gomorrah

Streaming on Max. Four seasons, concluded in 2019. Italian-language, set in Naples, based on Roberto Saviano's reporting on the Camorra. Two clans fighting for control of the drug trade, with the kind of operational detail that comes from journalism rather than fiction. It is less stylized than Peaky Blinders and more grounded — the violence is matter-of-fact, not choreographed. 80 on Watchmode. Also on Max via Hulu. You can buy episodes on Amazon.

Top Boy

Streaming on Netflix. Five seasons total — two original seasons (2011, 2013) that aired on Channel 4, and three seasons (2019 through 2023) produced by Netflix. Ashley Walters and Kane Robinson play two drug dealers navigating the London housing estate trade. The Netflix revival is the stronger version; the original two seasons are shorter and rawer. The full run is on Netflix. Concluded in 2023. 8.0 on Watchmode.

Snowfall

Streaming on Hulu. Six seasons, concluded in 2023. Damson Idris as Franklin Saint, a young man in 1980s South Central Los Angeles who builds a crack cocaine empire from a single connection. The show tracks the mechanics of the trade — supply chains, territory, enforcement — and the personal cost, which is where it earns its weight. Also on Disney+. You can buy episodes on Amazon.

Narcos

Streaming on Netflix. Three seasons (2015 through 2017) covering the rise and fall of Pablo Escobar and the Medellin Cartel, followed by a separate three-season run, Narcos: Mexico (2018 through 2021), covering the Guadalajara Cartel. The show blends archival footage with dramatization, and the first two seasons — Wagner Moura as Escobar — are the core of it. Six total seasons, all on Netflix. 83 on Watchmode.

The Sopranos

Streaming on Max. Six seasons, concluded in 2007. The show that defined the modern antihero drama. James Gandolfini as Tony Soprano, a New Jersey mob boss who sees a therapist for panic attacks. The therapy sessions are the structural innovation — they let the show examine the psychology of the criminal rather than just the operations. 93 on Watchmode, the highest score on this list. Also on Max via Hulu. You can buy episodes on Amazon.

Boardwalk Empire

Streaming on Max. Five seasons, concluded in 2014. Steve Buscemi as Nucky Thompson, a political boss in 1920s Atlantic City who runs the town's bootlegging operation during Prohibition. Created by Terence Winter, produced by Martin Scorsese (who directed the pilot). The period detail is meticulous, and the family-as-business framing that Peaky Blinders uses shows up here in a different form — here it is political machine as criminal enterprise. 88 on Watchmode. Also on Max via Hulu. You can buy episodes on Amazon.

If You Liked Peaky Blinders

Peaky Blinders is the most common reference point in this category, so here is what specifically carries over to the other entries on this list. These are the best gangster shows streaming if you want something that shares Peaky Blinders' DNA.

The period detail and the family-as-business structure: Boardwalk Empire is the closest match. Prohibition-era Atlantic City, a political boss running a bootlegging operation, the same kind of tailored-costumes-and-territory-violence aesthetic. If what you want is another period crime saga with that level of production design, start there.

The stylized British crime setting: Gomorrah is the Italian-language equivalent — same family-dynasty structure, same operational focus, less stylized and more grounded. If you liked the Shelby family's strategic maneuvering, the Savastano clan in Gomorrah operates the same way, with higher stakes.

The rise-and-fall arc: Snowfall tracks Franklin Saint's ascent the way Tommy Shelby's is tracked — step by step, decision by decision, with each gain narrowing the options for the next one. The setting is different (1980s LA, not interwar Birmingham), but the structural appeal is the same.

The family dynasty with psychological depth: The Sopranos is the template Peaky Blinders drew from. Tony Soprano's therapy sessions do what Tommy Shelby's silences do — they show the cost of the work on the person doing it. If the internal life of the protagonist is what held you, this is where to go.

For crime shows that move faster and do not require a multi-season commitment, the Harlan Coben shows on Netflix are standalone mysteries, not crime-saga epics, but they share the same moral-gray-zone territory.
