Where to Watch Every Friday the 13th Movie Before Crystal Lake

Crystal Lake arrives October 15 on Peacock, and all eight episodes drop at once — which means anyone who wants to catch up on the franchise before diving in has a narrow window to do it.
The problem is that the Friday the 13th films are scattered across services, and several of them aren't streaming on any subscription platform at all. This guide sorts out where every film is right now, which ones you'll have to rent or buy, and which to prioritize if you only have time for a few. If you're planning a broader horror lineup, our spooky season streaming guide has the rest of the genre covered. And if you're trying to name a horror film you half-remember but can't quite place, Ask the Beam can identify it from a description.

What Crystal Lake Is
Crystal Lake is a prequel series set before the events of the 1980 original film. It follows Pam Voorhees — played by Linda Cardellini — roughly a year after her son Jason drowned in the town lake. When two strangers arrive and begin digging into her past, the story explores how the legend of Crystal Lake began.
It is the thirteenth main installment in the Friday the 13th franchise. The series is produced by A24 and created by Brad Caleb Kane, who co-showran It: Welcome to Derry. It was originally targeted for Halloween 2025 before moving to October 2026.
Crystal Lake premieres Thursday, October 15, 2026, exclusively on Peacock. All eight episodes release the same day.

The Ones You Can't Stream
Four films in the franchise have no subscription streaming home at all: Jason Goes to Hell (1993), Jason X (2001), Freddy vs. Jason (2003), and the 2009 Friday the 13th reboot. All four are available to rent or buy on the platforms listed above, but none are included with any streaming subscription right now.
This is common for horror franchises with tangled rights histories. The Friday the 13th series has changed hands between Paramount, New Line Cinema, and Warner Bros. over the years, and the streaming rights rotate off services constantly. A film that's on Paramount+ one month may be gone the next, and the later entries — which were produced by New Line — have never had a stable streaming home.

What to Watch If You Only Have Time for Three
If you want the context for Crystal Lake without watching all twelve films, these three are the ones that matter most — and all three are streaming on Paramount+.
1. Friday the 13th (1980). The original. This is the film Crystal Lake is directly prequeling — it establishes Pam Voorhees, the drowning of her son, and the camp that becomes the franchise's centerpiece. If you watch one film, watch this one.
2. Friday the 13th Part 2 (1981). The film that turns Jason from a backstory into the killer. It's the bridge between Pam's story and the franchise Jason becomes, and it introduces the character Crystal Lake is built around.
3. Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives (1986). Widely considered the best film in the franchise. It's self-aware, well-made, and the point where the series stops taking itself seriously and starts having fun. If you only watch one beyond the original, make it this one.
