Best Horror Movies Streaming Right Now — September 2026

Halloween is still weeks away, but the horror lineup across streaming is already stacked enough to keep the lights on every night this month. Whether you're after Oscar-level dread, darkly funny thrills, or classic sci-fi terror, here's exactly what to watch — and exactly where to watch it.

The Best Horror on Max Right Now

Max is quietly carrying some of the strongest horror you can stream anywhere in 2026, and it starts at the very top.

Sinners (2025) is Ryan Coogler's vampire epic starring Michael B. Jordan in a dual role. Set in 1932 Mississippi, it follows twin brothers Smoke and Stack Moore — World War I veterans turned bootleggers — who return home to open a juke joint, only to discover a growing supernatural evil personified by an Irish vampire. It's been near the top of everyone's watchlist since it landed. This one demands your biggest screen.

Companion (2025), starring Sophie Thatcher and Jack Quaid, is a sci-fi thriller in which Thatcher plays Iris, who joins her boyfriend and friends at a remote lake house only to discover she's an AI companion rented from a tech company. It holds a 94% critic score and 89% audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Telling a story where the AI isn't the villain is a genuinely unique take, and it does so with darkly funny characters whose morals are deeply twisted. It sneaks up on you completely.

Hereditary (2018) is also on Max. Following the death of the Leigh family matriarch, Annie and her children uncover disturbing secrets about their heritage. Ari Aster's debut is still one of the most harrowing horror films ever made. Don't watch it alone.

The Best Horror on Hulu Right Now

Hulu is having a genuinely great horror moment, anchored by two films that couldn't be more different in style but are equally hard to shake.

Send Help (2026) is a survival horror film directed and produced by Sam Raimi — seventeen years is a long time to wait for a new Raimi horror movie. A plane crash leaves two colleagues, Linda Liddle (Rachel McAdams) and Bradley Preston (Dylan O'Brien), stranded on a deserted island. As the only survivors they must put past workplace grievances aside in an unsettling and darkly humorous battle of wills to stay alive. Made on a $40 million budget, it earned $94 million worldwide. It's Raimi at his gleefully twisted best.

Longlegs (2024) is also on Hulu: an FBI agent uncovers a series of occult clues she must solve to end a serial killer's spree, starring Maika Monroe and Nicolas Cage, directed by Osgood Perkins. Made for under $10 million, it grossed over $126 million and became distributor Neon's highest-grossing US film. It opens almost as an homage to The Silence of the Lambs before turning into something far more horrifying. Cage's performance is one for the ages.

The Best Horror on Peacock Right Now

Get Out (2017), Jordan Peele's landmark social horror film, is streaming on Peacock Premium. Peele's debut is still the sharpest horror film of the 21st century, and Daniel Kaluuya in that chair is one of the great screen performances. It holds up better than almost anything else from the past decade. If somehow you haven't seen it, this is your sign.

The Best Horror on Netflix Right Now

September is shaping up to be a vintage month for horror on Netflix.

Alien (1979) arrived on Netflix in the US on September 1, 2026, bringing Ridley Scott's sci-fi horror landmark to the service. Nearly five decades on, it holds a 93% critics' score on Rotten Tomatoes and was selected for preservation in the National Film Registry as culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.

Ready or Not (2019) was also added on September 1, directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett and starring Samara Weaving, Adam Brody, and Mark O'Brien. Grace (Weaving) is eager to marry into a wealthy family, but the celebration turns sinister when her in-laws introduce a family tradition — a game of hide-and-seek that escalates into a deadly hunt she must survive until dawn. It re-entered Netflix's US top 10 almost immediately after landing. The perfect gateway into spooky season.

Streaming libraries rotate. Physical media doesn't. If any of these are films you'd want to keep, GRUV carries horror on 4K and Blu-ray, including catalogue titles that disappear from streaming for years at a time.

Finding These Without Opening Five Apps

With horror scattered across Netflix, Max, Hulu and Peacock, knowing where something is streaming is half the battle. That's what StreamingBeam is built for. Search any title and see every service carrying it. Tonight's Pick gives you one answer when you don't want to decide. And Coming and Going shows what's leaving your services with real departure dates, so you know what to watch before it's gone.

Final Thoughts

Never miss what's leaving

A weekly rundown of what’s arriving and disappearing across your streaming services.

September is genuinely one of the best times of year to be a horror fan on streaming. Oscar-contending vampires on Max, Sam Raimi's long-awaited return on Hulu, and a freshly landed sci-fi classic on Netflix. There's no excuse to watch anything but the good stuff.
